South Dakota Rancher Relief Fund

(See the list of Donors to date)

The devastating loss of livestock in South Dakota in the recent snowstorm is something that is unbelievably hard to comprehend.  With reported losses as high as 100,000 head and sure to climb, many families in our neighboring state will be on the brink of bankruptcy.  More and more reports are coming out indicating many ranching families with losses of 50 to 80 percent of their cowherd, many with calves that had not yet shipped.

The S.D. Stockgrower’s Association, the S.D. Cattlemen’s Association and the S.D. Sheep Growers Association have established a relief fund to help the hundreds of producers through this difficult time.  As producers, we have all lost livestock, but very few of us have ever experienced anything of this magnitude.

Buffalo Livestock Auction is asking  the producers in our area for the donation of a weigh cow, bull, calf  or bred cow (or more if you can) to sell during our regular sale on Wednesday, October 30th.  Buffalo Livestock Auction will be waiving all of our fees on these animals sold and 100% of the sale price will go to this relief fund.  If you are a business or individual that would just like to make a monetary contribution please make your payment to South Dakota Rancher Relief Fund, mail to us and we will ensure it gets to the correct people. If we can all give a little, it may help ease the burden of the many that lost a lot.

Like one producer said who is ready to make a contribution: “It would be great if we can get these guys through this. If we all absorb a little bit or as much as we can, we can make a difference for everyone. Let’s show the rest of the world that it can be done!”

Please call or email us in advance if you are willing to donate.  We will be sure to list your participation on our website and also forward the names of every contributor to the SD Stockgrower’s and others involved with the relief fund.

Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.

 Thank you
